Children need urgent support after devastating floods in Nepal

Severe flash floods swept through Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts on 26 August after part of a glacier collapsed. Many people have died and hundreds are missing. 

Urgent support is required for the thousands of children and families affected by the crisis. 

The floods have caused widespread destruction, sweeping away homes and damaging vital infrastructure. 

Working closely with the Government of Nepal and humanitarian partners, UNICEF is scaling up life-saving support across health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, child protection and social protection. In the coming days, pre-positioned supplies will be dispatched to the hardest-hit communities, including medical tents, bed nets and newborn kits, and therapeutic food for children with acute malnutrition.  

Emergency hygiene kits for thousands of households are already reaching those in need.  

During disasters like this, support could include: 

• Providing clean water 
• Providing healthcare and medical supplies 
• Enabling accessible learning, ensuring continued to education 
• Providing cash assistance to families
